The CCPIT/CCOIC Legal Counsel Office, set up in 1979, is an institution specialized in legal counseling, legal service and legal research. The functions of the Office are: to provide members of the CCPIT/CCOIC as well as Chinese and foreign clients with legal counseling and services; to participate in the drafting, formulation and revision of state laws and regulations on behalf of business circle; to advise on China’s accession to relevant international conventions; to offer legal counseling on negotiations regarding international cooperation projects and on contract preparation. Accompanying China’s openness to the world, the CCPIT/CCOIC Legal Counsel Office, resorting to its effective and efficient legal service, has successfully helped many foreign clients resolve their disputes regarding trade and business with Chinese parties, which won the Office much acclaim and confidence among the Chinese and foreign enterprises. With the establishment of a good reputation, the Office is playing an important part in the exchange and communication between Chinese enterprises and their foreign counterparts as well as business circles and the government. The main practices of the Office include:

• ★ to act as a standing legal counsel upon the authorization by foreign clients or foreign organizations and institutions located in China;
• ★ to participate in business negotiations, issue written legal opinions, draft contracts, collect due payment, investigate the credit of enterprises and perform other related services upon the authorization by Chinese and foreign clients involved in non-litigation cases;
• ★ to act as a legal representative or agent in the foreign-related civil or commercial lawsuits or arbitrations;
• ★ to investigate the credit of the potential business partner upon the authorization by foreign clients;
• ★ to provide legal counseling and project investigation upon the authorization by foreign clients;
• ★ to offer counseling and legal services regarding IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) protection;
• ★ to keep close connection with relevant official departments, accept the complaints from foreign clients and report the complaints to the government;
• ★ to help foreign client propose the best resolution in the foreign-related business dispute;
